“Carbon capture, utilization and storage is a key enabler of cutting regional and local emissions for hard-to-abate industries such as waste to energy,” says Eimund Nygaard, CEO of Lyse. “We believe that by joining leading companies like Aker Carbon Capture, we can enable the climate transition in the Nord-Jæren region.”
Aker Carbon Capture, Lyse and Forus Energi have agreed to:
Explore the possibility to jointly develop a carbon capture and storage project at Forus Energi’s waste to energy plant at Forus outside Sandnes and Stavanger.
Explore ways for Lyse, Aker Carbon Capture and Forus Energi to further extend the application of key technologies for energy consumption when installing CCS facilities.
Explore and promote the application of carbon capture in the waste to energy sector in Norway.
“Our investments in more compact and cost-effective technology over 20 years is now a key enabler as we work closely with new customers that are starting their CCS journey,” says Valborg Lundegaard, Chief Executive Officer of Aker Carbon Capture. “HSE-friendly capture is something customers want to see, and we have the technology and the passion to drive this development forward. The cooperation with Lyse and Forus Energi opens for realizing cost-efficient plants, paving the way to make Stavanger and Sandnes front-runners in the energy transition,” she says.
“Having taken the first steps towards exploring the possibility for carbon capture at Forus together with Aker Carbon Capture, we are delighted to form a partnership in progressing our climate ambitions,” says Audun Aspelund, Chairman of the Board of Forus Energigjenvinning.
By 2030, Lyse aims to be ‘climate neutral’ in its own operations, at the same time as it will contribute to significant emission reductions regionally, nationally and internationally.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is non-exclusive and is valid for three years where after the companies can opt to extend further.
